After recently announcing the BPI-P2 Pro, Banana Pi has now shown yet another single-board computer (SBC). This time, the business unveiled the BPI-R3 Mini, a device that can function as a router and contains twin 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 5G antennae, and a Nano SIM card slot.
Since the BPI-P2 Pro was previewed prior to release, Banana Pi has had a busy month thus far. The business has just announced the BPI-R3 Mini, a new headless single-board computer (SBC) that functions as a router. The BPI-R3 Mini has the following I/O in accordance with:
- 1-Nano SIM
- Dual 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet
- Triple 5G antenna
- Single 2G antenna

A MediaTek MT7986 chipset, 2 GB of DDR4 Memory, and 8 GB of eMMC flash storage are also included in the Banana Pi. For information, the MediaTek MT7986, also referred as as the Filogic 830, has four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2 GHz. The SBC also features USB 2.0 Type-C, an MT7976C WiFi 6 chip, M.2 B-Key and M-Key sockets, UART debugging pins, and DC power input.
Like the BPI-P2 Pro, Banana Pi has not yet disclosed pricing or availability. The BPI-R3 Mini has been shown to boot OpenWrt, as seen in the video we’ve attached below. For more information, visit Banana Pi’s forum post.
