The upcoming Sony Xperia PRO-I smartphone has been teased as being “unlike anything we’ve seen before,” according to a leaker. There are no specifics provided, but it appears likely that the Xperia PRO-I Mark 2 device’s innovations will involve its camera hardware. A Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is also anticipated for the 2023 Xperia PRO-I.
The successor to the Sony Xperia PRO-I has apparently been teased by tipster @TheGalox_. A phone unlike anything we’ve seen before is used as the source’s exciting opening line, and the release date is tentatively listed as “coming later this year,” as was already reported. There are some predictions that the Xperia PRO-I II (or whatever name Sony chooses for it) will launch in the third quarter of 2023.

In addition, the leaker included the word “II” after a picture of the 1-inch image sensor that was featured in advertising for the Sony Xperia PRO-I. It is plausible to assume that the source is alluding to the Mark II model having certain camera-related advancements given the line’s evident emphasis on cameras and photography (the “I” in “PRO-I” stands for “imaging“). A similar rumor regarding the prospective Sony Xperia PRO-I model for 2023 has previously circulated.
Unfortunately, the rumors can be anything from ludicrous to almost plausible. Although there have been some rumors that a 200 MP sensor may be coming to the Xperia PRO-I Mark II, it seems doubtful that Sony would forego the professional-level 12 MP/12 MP/12 MP/0.3 MP configuration of the 2021 model and instead go for 200 MP for the 2023 model. It is more likely that Sony will choose an improved main picture sensor and increase the number of megapixels to 48 MP.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 engine and a main camera with three lenses—one inch, one and a half inches, and one and a half inches—the last of which being a 48 MP telephoto sensor—are two further reports surrounding the next Xperia PRO-I model. For the time being, a grain of salt should be used because similar rumors have previously been made about the Sony Xperia IV and Xperia V. The Sony Xperia PRO-I II will be a very costly phone, nonetheless (predecessor launch price: US$1,799).
