Beverley Hills, California, will host an online auction for more than 500 Apple computers and related accessories next month. The auction will include a wide range of items from 1977 to 2008, including Macintosh systems from the 1980s, more contemporary devices like the 2001 iMac G3, and vintage accessories like the Mac N' Frost external fan and surge protector from RH Electronics. Apple auctions have previously been conducted by Julien's Auctions, an auction house. Inconveniently, that also includes the $218,750 Birkenstock auction of Steve Jobs' shoes. The classic Apple items in its upcoming auction were gathered by Swiss collector Hanspeter Luzi and were revealed last week and discovered by websites like PetaPixel. According to the auction house's announcement, Luzi was a late historian with a variety of interests who kept a collection of vintage sewing machines that are now housed in Germany's Sewing Machine Museum. Luzi volunteered as an IT manager for schools, where he purchased surplus old computers and their components. Luzi's family decided to sell off his collection of Apple products after his death in 2015, according to the auction house. In its announcement, Julien's Auctions provided a sneak preview of a few of the hundreds of items that will be chosen for auction from the collection. A 1983 Lisa computer is among the most noteworthy items on the list. Its estimated cost is the highest of the group, at $10,000 to $20,000, which is not surprising. However, it is not a surprise if a vintage computer is sold for more. Functional Lisa computers have been sold for over $50,000 in previous auctions, including those held on eBay. The auctioneer is also promoting a motherboard from the Lisa as well as other Apple motherboards dating back to 1978 for those looking to spend less. The boards could sell for up to $200 each. The Apple III from 1980 (which comes with a Monitor III and "various connecting cables" and is estimated to cost up to $500) and the original Macintosh from 1984 are just a few of the 1980s Apple computers that Julien's will attempt to sell. They even include the floppy disk, which is reportedly still in the Macintosh 128K's drive. The 1989 Macintosh Portable, along with its "Apple Portable canvas case, with adapter, connecting cables, an Apple luggage tag, and two manuals in German (one copyrighted 1988, the other 1990)," will be put up for auction, according to Julien's Auctions. The laptop, one of the first personal computers to use an active-matrix LCD display, will be remembered by Apple fans as the first Mac to run on a (heavy) battery. According to the auction house's estimates, buyers who were unable to purchase the machine when it briefly went on sale for $6,500 may be able to do so for $300 to $500. Joysticks for the 1983–1984 Apple IIe and IIC as well as the Apple QuickTake 100 camera from 1994 are also up for auction. However, expensive Apple auctions are nothing new, so it will be interesting to see how much these products actually sell for. One original iPhone from 2007 that was scheduled to sell for $50,000 at auction instead brought in $63,356 in the most recent sale. From March 27 to March 30, Julien's Apple auction will take place.
