Adam Sandler is doing well after having hip surgery. The “Happy Gilmore” actor acknowledges that the operation made him feel older. At the 2022 Gotham Awards last Monday, Sandler, 56, made light of the situation by telling Page Six, “It’s only painful to say out loud. I say it was because of basketball so that feels a little bit rugged, but then being unable to tie my own shoe didn’t feel rugged.”
Additionally, the comedian revealed that his wife Jackie Sandler, and their kids Sadie, 16, and Sunny, 14, alternately assisted him in tying his shoes. Furthermore, after the operation in early September, he said that he wasn’t always the best patient but that “they were nice about it,” adding, “I screamed a lot then calmed down and ate some food.”
Additional details
On another note, with films like “Uncut Gems” and “The Meyerowitz Stories,” Adam Sandler, who rose to fame on “Saturday Night Live” in the 1990s, has recently strayed into more serious material, but he admits he “had no idea” how he manages to elicit so much sympathy for his characters. He told Page Six, “I just try to feel what I’m supposed to feel in a scene and go from there.”
The actor said of his varied career, “I’ve always wanted to do everything. I’ve been lucky to have people write stuff for me that’s as cool as it gets and work with amazingly talented people that put the movies together. And the stuff I do with my friends means everything to us, too. I like to work hard.”
Moreover, Sandler portrays an NBA scout in his most recent movie, “Hustle,” which is already getting Oscar buzz.
In other news, earlier in the evening, upon accepting the Gotham Performer Tribute Award, Sandler had the illustrious crowd, which included Julianne Moore, Bowen Yang, and Michelle Williams, howl during a speech that was allegedly written by his daughters.
The “Big Daddy” star spoke as Sadie and Sunny when he accepted the trophy, saying, “It means a lot to him seeing how most of the awards on his trophy shelf are shaped like popcorn buckets, blimps or fake mini Oscars that say ‘Father of the Year,’ which he sadly purchased himself while wandering in a self-pitying fog through the head shops of Times Square.”
