AI started stealing jobs, Voice Actors gets in trouble

Social media and artist-friendly websites like ArtStation saw a significant increase in AI-generated art toward the end of 2022. Even though real artists have been outspoken about how art generators plagiarize their work, AI art is gradually blending in with that community and other entertainment industry segments, such as books or music. In the field of voice acting, a similar issue is currently developing, which is a matter of concern. As reported earlier in the week, when signing up for a new project, voice actors for video games are now being asked to sign away their voice rights to company-run AI voice generators. Some actors have been forced to sign contracts that include these clauses; other actors aren't even aware that the clause is there until after they've signed. In any case, there is a real worry that actors of all sizes will lose their roles to these AI voices, especially those just starting. Also Read: Why we still can't trust AI-Generated Content? Voice actor Fryda Wolff, best known for her work in Apex Legends, spoke in an interview about the potential implications of AI-generated voices for human actors and how they might be fairly compensated, particularly for those who work with game developers and animation studios. [caption id="attachment_92151" align="aligncenter" width="820"]Voice wired[/caption] In a similar vein, Sungwon Cho said in an interview that it was "disrespectful to the craft" to imply that producing a performance is equivalent to a real human being's performance. Consent has been one of the main areas of worry regarding AI art and voice. Many fans or websites often choose artists whose work is being used for AI without their permission. For performances, "consent must be ongoing," actor Sarah Elmaleh emphasized. It's safe to say that AI will continue to be a part of the larger entertainment industry for some time because actors are actively giving their voices to AI companies and studios are doing the same (see Linkin Park or Netflix). The optimization mindset of the tech industry being applied to fields with an artistic bent is pretty depressing. Even though its loudest proponents like to talk about how much this is the future if doing so means eliminating the drive and diligence that can only come from the human touch, it's not one to look forward to.
