Amazon will begin to offer free training later in the month at a new facility in Crystal City, Virginia, as it is still constructing its new, helix-shaped headquarters nearby.
The Amazon Web Services Skills Center will provide cloud computing training, with a focus on preparing people for the AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials Certification.
Anyone will be able to sign up for free in-person classroom training or virtual training.
The opening of the new skill centres comes nearly two years after Amazon pledged to assist and support 29 million IT workers around the world to improve their cloud computing skills through free training by 2025.
Several dozens of classes will be offered at the Crystal City campus, covering topics such as DevOps, application development, machine learning, and cloud architecting. They will assist IT employees in developing skills in game technology, and security, and building stronger cloud-based data storage.
The AWS Skills Center will organise career networking events as well as job fairs where people who have completed training will be placed with local businesses.
The Crystal Drive campus near 15th Street will feature interactive exhibits. It will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The skills centre will be open to the public on Tuesday, October 18.
