AMD Released Unflattering Benchmarks For The RX 7900 XTX

When AMD announced its new RX 7900 XTX graphics card a couple of weeks ago, it didn't say much about how well it would work. It wasn't that AMD didn't share numbers—the presentation was full of them—but that they were all from uncommon resolutions, esports games that don't stress the best graphics cards, or were hidden by FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling. AMD is finally ready to give us more information. This will give us a better idea of how the new flagship will compare to other products, which is both good and bad. The company showed how well the RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT did in four games: Resident Evil Village, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and Watch Dogs: Legion. The data shows that the RX 7900 XTX might be able to compete with the NVIDIA RTX 4090 in some games. But the RX 7900 XT is not as good as the top model, even though it costs about the same. Image: 91Mobiles[/caption] Starting with the RTX 4090, AMD's data shows that the RX 7900 XTX will be about 10% to 15% slower than the Nvidia flagship. Cyberpunk 2077 is the only game for which we have a direct comparison. In our tests, the RTX 4090 reached 78 frames per second (fps). AMD says that the RX 7900 XTX reached 72 fps, which is about 8% slower. Even though it's a loss, the RX 7900 XTX is $600 less than the RTX 4090. Even though it's important to wait for testing by a third party, we have no reason to think that AMD's results aren't accurate. With the RX 6950 XT, we got almost the same result in Cyberpunk 2077 as what AMD said. If AMD's numbers are correct, the RX 7900 XTX could be about 70% faster than the RX 6950 XT. How Would AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, 7900 XT Perform Against Nvidia's 40 Series? That's exciting, but the data from AMD also has some bad news. Even though the RX 7900 XT is only $100 less than the RX 7900 XTX, it is about 17% less powerful than the flagship card. It's still a lot better than AMD's best GPU from the last generation, but the XTX looks like the better buy. The performance of ray tracing is also not great. During the RX 7900 XTX announcement, AMD talked about how it had improved ray tracing. Compared to Nvidia's competition, the last generation had trouble with ray tracing. Even though AMD is getting better, its numbers show that it won't be able to compete with Team Green.
