(Image credit- Macworld) Just one day after iOS 16.5 went live, Apple on Friday published the first beta of iOS 16.6 for developers. The update was launched on the same day that the firm unveiled the first betas of tvOS 16.6, macOS Ventura 13.5, and watchOS 9.6. But it's not yet obvious what the update adds that is new.

Update: Apple is now also making the update available to public beta testers

Let's review what's new in iOS 16.5 before discussing the iOS 16.6 beta. Along with sports-related features for Apple News subscribers, it also provided a new Pride Celebration wallpaper for the iPhone lock screen. These modifications arrived with iOS 16.5 more specifically:
  • To respect the LGBTQ+ community and culture, a new Pride Celebration wallpaper for the lock screen has been created.
  • The Apple News Sports tab provides quick access to news, results, standings, and other information for the teams and leagues you follow.
  • You can access game pages straight from the My Sports score and schedule cards in Apple News to learn more about specific games.
  • Removes a bug that might cause Spotlight to stop working.
  • Fixes a bug that prevents content from loading from podcasts in CarPlay and prevents screen time settings from resetting or syncing across all devices.
The iOS 16.6 beta's new features are yet unknown to us. The update probably doesn't include any significant new features. That's because Apple is likely focusing on conserving the new capabilities for the next significant release to its operating system, which is slated to be iOS 17 at WWDC 2023 next month.
