Apple increased the cost of non-AppleCare battery replacement across all devices

Beginning March 1, replacing a battery in an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook will cost $20 more. Replacements for the iPhone 12 and 13 lines are out of the protection plan and not covered by AppleCare+. AppleCare+ subscribers can replace a battery whose maximum battery capacity is less than 80%. Those service costs $69 until March, after which $89. Several "older" iPads' battery replacement costs will also rise by $20. These include 12.9-inch iPad Pros from the fifth generation and older, 11-inch iPad Pros from the third generation and older, 10.5-inch and 9.7-inch iPad Pros, iPad minis older than the sixth generation, and iPad Airs older than the fifth generation. A fourth-generation iPad Air battery replacement, for example, would cost $99 until March 1, then $119 after that. Battery packs for MacBook Air models cost $30 more, and MacBook and MacBook Pro batteries cost $50 more. This is in addition to the $220-plus two-year cost of AppleCare+ for the latest iPhone models. The cost of a new battery for a Mac is nearing that of AppleCare+. This is especially true for older MacBooks, where the cost could reach $300 over three years. If you don't want or require serialized tracking, you can get a DIY battery kit for $45 or less. The price increase may also make DIY repair quite enticing but to varying degrees. Apple's public response to the Batterygate scandal had an impact on new iPhone sales. In 2018, the number of iPhone battery replacements increased from 1-2 million to 11 million. Battery pricing changes, no matter how minor, have an impact on new device sales. In the fall of 2022, Apple had already managed to move its prices out of the Batterygate-era apology realm.
