Apple Is Reportedly Creating Micro LED Screens For 2024 With Big Goals But Tiny LEDs

The story is similar to one from 2018, which suggested that Apple could start switching to its own displays in 2020, however, the one from today claims that Apple was unable to move forward with those plans due to "expensive expenses and technological obstacles." Apple purchased Micro LED technology in 2014, which will be used in the new panels. Micro LED displays, like OLED panels, provide pixel-level brightness settings that enable improved contrast and lower energy use. Additionally, because they don't need a separate backlight layer, they can be thinner than LCD screens. However, Micro LED screens differ from OLED screens in that they do not rely on organic material that can degrade over time, they have a higher maximum brightness, and they are not susceptible to burn-in problems like OLED screens can be.
