Apple M2 and Apple M2 Pro-based models for future Mac mini variations are reportedly in the works. The improved Mac mini is mentioned in the same sentence as the Mac Pro and new iterations of the MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16, but none will be available before the beginning of next year.
The current Mac mini, one of Apple's first products to debut with its own silicon, has been available for more than two years. Since then, Apple has released multiple iPads and Mac models with built-in chipsets. The Apple M1, which has a design that is currently more than ten years old, nonetheless houses the Mac mini.
Mark Gurman claims that Apple intended to launch a new Mac mini in addition to the first Mac Pro built with Apple M series chipsets. The Apple M2 and Apple M2 Pro, which should both provide respectable performance gains for an actively cooled mini-PC, will reportedly be available alongside the Mac mini. For comparison, even though we only tested the Apple M1 in a fanless system, the
Apple M2 performs roughly 10% better than the Apple M1 in our benchmarks.

The performance difference between the Apple M2 and Apple M2 Pro should be comparable to that between the Apple M1 and Apple M1 Pro. Our database indicates that the Apple M1 is about 15% inferior to the Apple M1 Pro. Although Gurman addressed it in relation to the MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16 models, which are anticipated to debut in early 2023, a release date for the next Mac mini is still uncertain.
