Apple's Vision Pro Keyboard- Here's Everything You Want to Know About it

(Image credit- Mixed Reality News) An in-depth look at the various ways users will (ultimately) manage Apple's new Vision Pro headset, including a virtual keyboard you'll be able to type on in mid-air, was provided during a developer session. The "Design for spatial input" event, in which two members of Apple's design team lead potential developers through the best practices for creating apps for the new platform, is what brought it to our attention. Apple seems to prefer that users stare at UI elements and make modest hand gestures while resting their arms on their lap to operate the headset. So let's discuss the virtual keyboard for the Vision Pro. In order to compensate for the "missing tactile information" that comes with touching a read peripheral, Apple designer Eugene Krivoruchko notes that it's critical to provide enough visual and audio feedback while using it. Buttons show a hovering state when the finger is over the keyboard and a highlight that brightens as you go closer to the button surface, according to Krivoruchko. It serves as a proximity cue and aids in pointing the finger at the target. When two objects come into contact, the state changes quickly and responsively, and a corresponding spatial sound effect occurs. Recently, Meta released similar experimental functionality known as direct touch that enables Quest VR users to touch virtual keyboards or menu buttons. However, UploadVR points out that until the depth sensor-equipped Quest 3 is out later this year, Apple's Vision Pro is probably more accurate than Meta's due to its depth sensors. Speak to Search

The same developer session mentioned that focusing your eyes on the microphone symbol in the search area will activate a "Speak to Search" option, so voice input is also supported. That will probably extract audio information from the six onboard microphones of the Vision Pro. Direct touch can be applied to communicate with other parts of the system. In one Apple demo, the user makes a pen gesture in midair to type a message and draw a heart shape in Markup. Although the user's hand is the primary means of engagement, Krivoruchko explains how eye-tracking is also used to supplement the motions. Like a mouse pointer, you use your hand to control the brush cursor, but if you look to the opposite side of the canvas and tap, the cursor jumps there and lands exactly where you're looking. This gives the impression of realism and makes it easier to quickly cover a huge canvas, according to the designer.
