At least 10 died in an attack on Ciudad Juarez prison by a group of gunmen

On Sunday, a dramatic attack on a prison in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, just across the border from El Paso, Texas, resulted in at least ten fatalities. Additionally, numerous guards and prisoners were killed when a group of gunmen in armored trucks assaulted the Cereso Number 3 state jail, according to reports from various news organizations. However, the violent attack's perpetrators and motivation remain unknown. Furthermore, the incident started at 7 am on Sunday when armed men in armored vehicles approached the prison in Ciudad Juarez and started firing on the prison guards, according to a statement from the Chihuahua State Prosecutor's office. Additionally, reports stated that as the tumultuous scene developed, people were crowding around outside the facility wanting to see their loved ones on New Year's Day. According to reports, a search is now being conducted for the prisoners who escaped. On another note, sources reported that several prisoners rioted within the facility, started fires, and engaged in physical conflict with security personnel. Later in the day, Mexican police and military took back control of the prison. According to the state prosecutor's office, at least four persons were detained, although it's unknown who they were or who might have started the attack. The office of the state prosecutor is currently investigating the incident.
