Remains discovered in a remote part of Oklahoma were identified as those of Athena Brownfield, 4, who was allegedly murdered by her carer on Christmas Day, according to investigators. Additionally, the notification was posted on the Facebook page of the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigations. The statement read, "Due to a gag order filed in Caddo County District Court, there is no additional comment on the investigation from the OSBI.” According to the OSBI's Facebook page, Caddo County District Court Judge David Stephens issued a gag order in the case on Monday. Details about the case

Athena Brownfield was reported missing after a postal worker saw her 5-year-old sister wandering about outside of her Cyril, Oklahoma, home on January 10. Six days later, on January 16, local law enforcement and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation moved their search for the child to recovery attempts. Additionally, the child's remains were discovered on January 17 in a remote area of Grady County, west of Rush Springs, which is nearly 22 miles to the southeast of Cyril, Oklahoma. But authorities claimed they were unable to positively identify the girl. In addition, the OSBI said that the remains were taken to the Oklahoma County Medical Examiner's Office for conclusive identification. According to an affidavit acquired by the Associated Press, Athena's male carer Ivon Adams, who was detained on January 12 in Arizona, reportedly killed her on Christmas Day. He was then moved to the Caddo County Jail in Anadarko, Oklahoma, on January 19. Mitchell S. Solomon, an attorney with the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System, is his representative. Additionally, Ivon Adams' wife Alysia was also detained on Jan. 12 on  two counts of child neglect. According to court documents, she is represented by Attorney Albert J. Hoch. However, Hoch stated that the gag order prevents him from speaking on his client's behalf. What’s more

According to the authorities, the girls and the Adamses are related, but did not specify how. In addition, the OSBI disclosed that Athena Brownfield and her sister's biological parents were questioned and are collaborating with the law. Moreover, the children's biological mother allegedly abandoned them with the couple, the document stated, according to the Associated Press. Ivon and Alysia were referred to by the girls as "dad" or "Uncle Ivon” and “mom" or "Aly," respectively. In addition, the Adamses looked after the two girls for at least a year. However, the older child was never enrolled in school, and the two kids were never taken for checkups at the doctor's office, according to the affidavit. Lastly, according to reports, Athena's funeral was held on Wednesday.
