According to her defense attorney, the Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three small children by strangulation and then attempting suicide was battling with homicidal and suicidal impulses as a result of being overmedicated on several prescription medicines. Defense lawyer Kevin J. Reddington claimed that Lindsay Clancy, 32, had been given medication for mood problems, anxiety, and psychosis during an interview with The Boston Globe. Reddington told the newspaper, "One of the major issues here is the horrific overmedication of drugs that caused homicidal ideation, suicidal ideation. They [Lindsay and her husband] went to doctors repeatedly saying 'Please help us.' This was turning her into a zombie ... the medications that were prescribed were over the top, absolutely over the top." Furthermore, at the time she allegedly murdered her 7-month-old baby Callan, her 5-year-old daughter Cora, and her 3-year-old son Dawson, Lindsay was thought to be suffering from postpartum mood disorder. And her husband was very proactive in trying to protect her and help her with the doctors' medication she was prescribed. They went through hell — and they didn't come back."

What's more

Patrick Clancy, Lindsay's husband, wrote about his three children and begged the public to forgive his wife in a GoFundMe page he set up for the family. I'm constantly reminded of them and with the little sleep I get, I dream about them on repeat. Cora, Dawson, and Callan were the essence of my life and I'm completely lost without them." Patrick wrote about his wife Lindsay Clancy and said their marriage was "wonderful and diametrically grew stronger as her condition rapidly worsened," and added, "I took as much pride in being her husband as I did in being a father and felt persistently lucky to have her in my life." On another note, Reddington revealed to The Globe that Lindsay received 13 psychiatric prescriptions between October and January of last year, including Ambien, Valium, Zoloft and Prozac. However, he did not reveal the dosages. He also declared that he has employed a toxicologist to examine the drugs and amounts Lindsay was given. Moreover, Lindsay, a former labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, is currently hospitalized in Boston and unable to walk. Reddington told the outlet, "She can't walk. She's not in good physical shape. She's not in good emotional shape." Lastly, Tim Cruz, the district attorney for Plymouth County, posted a statement on Twitter stating that Lindsay is now being held by police. She faces two counts of homicide and three counts each of strangulation and assault and battery.
