According to Somerset’s police chief, using a Tesla Model Y will enable his agency to save more than $80,000 over the next ten years.

The chief of the Somerset Police Department Joel Trepczyk claims that employing this specific EV model has many advantages. There are a number of factors that should make purchasing an electric car a top priority, in addition to its favorable environmental impact and low running costs.

Some police departments believe the Tesla Model Y to be the ideal choice due to its many advantages, which include a lengthy vehicle lifespan and the highest crash test rating.

Last Friday, February 3, Trepczyk revealed that the Somerset police force chose Model Y for financial considerations in an interview with Police 1 News.

The chief also discussed how this particular vehicle is superior to other patrol vehicles in the nation.

  • Extended vehicle life
  • Outstanding performance
  • Highest score in crash tests
  • The battery has a maximum range of 500,000 miles.
  • 5 years for the battery and 125,000 miles for the drivetrain
  • EV motors and drivetrains made in America have a 1,000,000-mile range.
  • No oil changes are required.

According to Trepczyk, the police force was able to buy the Model Y for just $60,000, albeit the rebates further reduced the initial cost.

The chief of Somerset PD claims that the department will save more than $80,000 over the next ten years. All of this might be attributable to the advantages of its operating expenses.

“Using money from the American Rescue Plan Act, the car was bought. Along with donations for the purchase, we also submitted an application for money from an LEA grant. The car cost about $60,000 when it was purchased. More significantly, during the course of its ten-year duty life, it is expected to save our village more than $80,000 “Added Joel.
