For the first time, British musicians have taken the top ten spots in the yearly UK singles chart. In 2022, Harry Styles set the standard with his smash song
As It Was. Additionally, the Official Charts Company reported that
Ed Sheeran's
Bad Habits was at No. 2, and his
Peru collaboration with Fireboy DML was in third place.
Furthermore, since the start of UK singles chart more than 50 years ago, it was the first all-British annual top ten. In addition, Leon Neville of the UK record labels organization, the BPI, praised the achievement at a time when "streaming has created un-precedented competition from every corner of the globe."
"This outstanding achievement is a testament to the rich music talent that continues to emerge from the UK’s nations, fueled by the passion, investment, and skills of UK record labels," he continued.

Moreover, with the 1985 song
Running Up That Hill, Kate Bush returned to the charts last year. The song was featured in the Netflix series
Stranger Things, which generated 124 million streams in 2022. Additionally,
Harry's House by Styles was the top selling album in the UK in 2022, ahead of Sheeran.
On another note, last year, 166.1 million records were streamed or purchased by Brits. And a whopping 86.1% of the market was made up of streaming. In addition, for the first time, there were 150 billion audio streams overall.
Currently, it takes seven million audio and video streams in total to reach No. 1, and it presently takes an average of 1.3 million audio streams to join the top 40 on the Official Singles Chart. On another note, despite the increase in online listening, 11.6 million CDs and 5.5 million vinyl albums were purchased, with LP demand increasing for the fifteenth consecutive year.
