Cheap Hearing Aids Are Now Available Over-the-Counter

Hearing aids are now readily available across the US for the first time. According to The Verge, these over-the-counter hearing aids are available at Walmart and Walgreens. There are other businesses that have created innovative hearing aids, such as Sony. In August, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a move that would permit hearing aids to be purchased without a prescription.  The Over-the-Counter Hearing Aid Act of 2017 included the finalization of this new rule. The Biden administration commanded that the statute be fully implemented in July. This modification creates a new avenue for less expensive and more convenient solutions for people with mild to moderate hearing loss. Cheaper hearing aids If you didn't know, prescription hearing aids can cost several thousand dollars per pair. Now, Walmart will sell over-the-counter hearing aids for a price of $199 to $999 per pair. John Wigneswaran, Walmart's chief medical officer, said in a statement: "Offering simple access to OTC hearing aids-something that seems relatively small-is a solution that can improve our customers' health outcomes and their ability to live better and healthier." With this new regulation, it won't be shocking when IT businesses begin to create their own OTC hearing aid alternatives. For starters, Sony and WS Audiology have collaborated to develop two over-the-counter hearing aids. According to a press statement from Sony, the first hearing aid will be on sale this month for $999.99 and the second one will follow in the coming months. Cheaper hearing aids This will probably result in increased competition and greater technological developments in the over-the-counter sector. Artificial intelligence (AI) might also play a role. In order to modify and customize hearing aids for consumers' needs, businesses like Tuned have started collaborating with software firms. The over-the-counter hearing aid movement, however, is not being ignored by well-known hearing aid manufacturers. Some are collaborating with major consumer electronics businesses to introduce new devices.
