Check Out Apple’s Second iPad Lineup

Apple now has a second iPad in its lineup. The new iPad 10 stands out for a number of reasons, the majority of which are related to how it compares to the rest of the iPad family.

With the introduction of the iPad 10 and the retention of the iPad 9, the 2022 iPad lineup will have even more options, including:

$329 iPad 9, 10.2-inch (Touch ID Home button/Lightning)
$449 iPad 10, 10.9-inch (Touch ID power button/USB-C) NEW
$499 iPad mini 6, 8.3-inch (Touch ID power button/USB-C)
$599 iPad Air 5 10.9-inch (Touch ID power button/USB-C)
$799 iPad Pro, 11-inch (Face ID/Thunderbolt) NEW
$1099 iPad Pro, 12.9-inch (Face ID/Thunderbolt) NEW

Since the iPad 2, users have been requesting a horizontal front-facing camera. Eleven years later, Apple has responded to that feedback! At least for iPad 10 customers. Also Read: Will 5G impact your iPhone’s battery life? Apple also updated the iPad Pro models today, but pro customers will still have to use a portrait camera that is turned sideways. This is most likely due to the fact that the iPad 10 is a new design, and Apple chose not to retool the iPad Pro production line for a logically placed webcam.

Apple Pencil predicament

Every flat-sided iPad released since 2018 is compatible with the second-generation Apple Pencil, except the iPad 10. Apple is sticking with first-generation Apple Pencil support due to cost? Camera positioning? Nobody knows. The issue is that the iPad 10 ditches the Lightning port in favor of a USB-C port (which is a good thing), but the first-generation Apple Pencil pairs and charges via the Lightning port (bad). Apple has released a new iPad 10 keyboard/trackpad accessory. The Magic Keyboard Folio is a two-piece solution with a dedicated function row that includes Siri, emoji, and even an escape key. This is new territory for Apple's iPad keyboard. The two-part design also allows you to prop up the iPad 10 to watch movies or make video calls with the correct orientation camera without using the keyboard/trackpad half. There are also no new iPad Pro accessories, though a new docking system appears to be planned for 2023. The most disappointing and strange choice with the iPad Pro is not bringing the superior mini LED technology from the larger iPad Pro to the smaller iPad Pro. That was understandable at the time, but it now feels like the reason to update the 11-inch Pro. The differences in features between the 10.9-inch iPad, 10.9-inch Air, and 11-inch Pro are as significant as the price, but a "pro" screen would undoubtedly help sell the $800 Pro.
