China launches three additional spy satellites into space: Report

According to a report from Space.com, China has launched three additional surveillance satellites, commonly referred to as spy satellites, into orbit. The three espionage satellites were launched into space on Friday, October 14 at 3:12 p.m. EDT from the southern Chinese city of Xichang. A rocket is said to have carried three Yaogan 36 series satellites. The satellites were successfully launched into their appropriate orbit, said CCTV+. Because China withholds details on the Yaogan satellites, whose name translates to "remote sensing," the objective of the freshly launched trio is unknown. The spacecraft reportedly gathers scientific data to assist researchers in a number of tasks, including land surveys and the monitoring of agricultural productivity, according to the Chinese state media. China launches three additional spy satellites into space: Report According to Space.com, Western experts assert that Yaogan satellites also collect imagery for Chinese military uses. After SpaceX Crew-4's 5.5-month return to Earth on Friday, the Yaogan 36's launch was coordinated with another key launch that same day. In preparation for its launch into orbit later this month, a propeller was added last week to China's third and final space station module. The Mengtian experiment module has already undergone assembly and testing since it landed at the Wenchang spaceport on the southern island of Hainan in August. The propellant will be used by Mengtian to aid in locating and docking with the two Tiangong space station modules that are currently in orbit. In April of last year, China launched the Tianhe core module into orbit, and in July of this year, China launched the Wentian experiment module into orbit. Mengtian, which means "Dreaming of the Heavens," is a 58.7-foot (17.9-meter)-the long structure that weighs over 48,500 pounds (22 tons). Its main purpose in construction was to accommodate numerous science racks and experiments.
