A video developed by a Chinese military contractor showcasing its horrifying new military equipment revealed a robot attack dog that could be dropped by a drone.
A drone hovers over a building before dumping a robot on the roof in the footage that was first made public on the verified Weibo account of "Kestrel Defense Blood-Wing," a page connected to a Chinese defense contractor. After the drone takes off, the robot stands up on four legs and starts scanning the building for targets while holding what look to be automatic guns on its back.
The weapon carried by the robot dog may be a Chinese QBB-97 light machine gun, which can fire 650 rounds per minute at a useful range of 400 meters, according to a report from WarZone.
The robot's description, which was automatically translated to English and posted by Kestrel Defense Blood-Wing, boasts that it can quickly "launch a surprise strike."
"War dogs flying overhead, air assault, Red Wing" Combat robot dogs are delivered by forward heavy-duty drones. They can be positioned on the opponent's roof to hold the commanding heights and reduce weaponry, or they can be dropped into the weak spot behind the adversary to launch a surprise attack. Additionally, ground soldiers [may] engage the adversary within the building with a three-dimensional pincer attack, according to the description.
Military specialists worry that systems in which robots built to function autonomously are in development and could soon be used on battlefields, despite the fact that the Chinese technology and other similar weapons have up until now been meant to be operated by a human at the controls.
