Chris Rock, 57, the renowned Oscars host, is getting ready to make history by becoming the first comedian to ever perform live on Netflix at a forthcoming international streaming event. Robbie Praw, Netflix's vice president of stand-up and comedy formats, declared in a statement on Thursday, “Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation.”
He added, “We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we’re so honored that Chris is carrying this torch.”

Furthermore, viewers can expect to see this event in early 2023, almost a year after the notorious Oscars incident where Will Smith slapped the comedian. For those unaware, Smith smacked Rock after the comedian made a bald joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has alopecia, later in the evening when he won Best Actor for "King Richard." In a prior statement, the comedian said that he wouldn't discuss the slap until he saw a check with his name on it. "I’m OK. I have a whole show, and I’m not talking about that until I get paid,” he told his audience in April during a comedy show at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.
However, a week prior to his appearance at the casino, the "Everybody Hates Chris" creator advised fans during a surprise trip to the Comedy Cellar in New York City, “Lower your expectations. I’m not going to address that s–t.”
What’s more
Smith was consequently barred from the Academy Awards for 10 years.
On another note, Smith then issued a public apology in a July YouTube video but said Rock was "not ready" to have a one-on-one conversation.
Lastly, the live performance on Netflix will be Rock's second stand-up special after his 2018 release, "Chris Rock: Tamborine."
