Shazam, the software to recognize songs is owned by Apple but still available to non-Apple users too and the latest, in this case, is the Chrome extension.
With the Chrome extension, Shazam is easy to access from the same device it is playing from and it can be used even with headphones on. If you are using a lot of TV for streaming your programs, accessing Shazam on your phone would not be of much use to recognize the song.
Shazam can be used freely from the web store and you will need to follow these simple steps.
- Click on Add To Chrome
- Tap on Add Extension
- You can access it from the toolbar
- For easy access, you can pin the extension in the toolbar
- When playing audio, click on the Shazam extension
- For analyzing, click on the Shazam button
- If any matches are found, you can find them here
Though some users have complained about this not being active and for a few others, it seems to be working aptly. There is an intermittent collapsing and a brief faltering sound when the Shazam button is clicked and at the time when the scan is complete.
Though Shazam does not support Spotify, you can connect it to your Apple Music account. You can browse Shazam's history in the dropdown menu and listen to past music from the menu by opening Apple music or deleting the history. For deleting, you need to go down to the bottom and tap on Delete All, and again press Delete All.
