Chrome OS updates are frequent and easy to install. However, the recent Chrome OS update proved a bit troublesome for some users. Consequently, users reported that their Chromebooks camera not working after the new update.
‘About Chromebooks’ was the source of these reports. However, on April 7, Google revealed that the company had already released a fox for the anomaly. Although before the fix, there were multiple bug reports concerning the issue. In addition, the camera lost functionality in all apps – from video calls to the native camera app. One user complained that their camera “simply does not work” in one report. Meanwhile, users also reported that their Chromebooks cameras are “unable to focus properly.”
Moreover, Chromebook owners also reported issues with older Chrome OS versions, dating back to Crome 97. Currently, Chrome OS is on version 100. Additionally, the problem of Chromebooks camera not working due to the latest Chrome OS update primarily affected ARM-based Chromebooks. According to the report by ‘About Chromebooks,’ the following Chromebooks cameras faced issues-
- Acer Chromebook 14
- HP Chromebook x2 11
- Lenovo Duet 5 Chromebook 5
- Lenovo 10e Chromebook
- Google Pixelbook Go
- Acer Chromebook Spin 13
Fortunately, Google is not blind to the issue. In addition, the company assured users that the problem was unrelated to hardware. Shortly after, Google released a new update with the fix for the Chromebooks camera issues.
