According to a recent rumour, a crackdown on Netflix password sharing is going to begin in the first quarter of next year, or in 2023, to be more precise. The giant streamer's executive team has previously stated that they intend to solve the problem of password sharing on the platform. Netflix researchers apparently identified password sharing as a concern as early as 2019 according to the most recent report. It turns out that it has a significant impact on streaming service subscriptions. According to sources , Netflix believed that addressing it might turn off some customers. However, the massive streamer is currently dealing with sluggish subscriber growth. And one of the ways Netflix's top executives plan to deal with the snag is by beginning to crack down on user password sharing. To be more specific, the streamer's co-CEO, Reed Hastings, earlier declared that after putting the problem on wait for a while, they are now working to resolve password sharing. Adding a more affordable tier is another step Netflix has taken to increase its customer base. The massive service has begun distributing its Basic with Ads plan. The majority of its movies and television shows are still available for a more reasonable subscription rate. The streaming service, which is home to popular shows including Stranger Things and Squid Game, has reportedly began experimenting with steps to prevent password sharing this year, according to the reports. Are Password Sharing Offenses Punished?

According to the reports,  the crackdown on password sharing will compel accounts from households other than the paying user's to pay as well in order to continue using the site. The approach, which Netflix has begun testing in various Latin American nations, entails charging an add-on price of about $2.99 per month to users who are not household members. Because of this, users who share their passwords will not face any consequences from the crackdown. The streamer will only ask you to make an additional payment.
