The good news is that Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, the second game in the series that has been remade, has reactivated its online functionality.
They were disabled back in January after a vulnerability that might have allowed an attacker to remotely control your PC was found. According to Polygon, it means PC users of Scholar of the First Sin will once more be able to play both collaboratively and competitively online.
The slightly less encouraging news is that although servers for both the original Dark Souls and the remastered edition of Dark Souls are still missing, they will soon be available.
Although it doesn't specify a certain date, FromSoftware's Twitter thread mentions that work is still being done.
The final bad news is that Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition, the 2012 PC version of the first Dark Souls game, will never again have online features.
FromSoftware explains in a tweet that it can't bring them back "due to an aged system," but that the game's ten-year-old offline playability and previous saves shouldn't be impacted.
The announcement follows the return of Dark Souls 3's PC servers at the end of August by two months.
