Threads, which is like Meta's version of Elon Musk's X, became really popular on social media shortly. After it was launched a few months ago. Even though this Instagram-based app is still quite new and doesn't have all its features yet, people have been using it a lot. However, there's been a problem – users couldn't delete their Threads profile without also deleting their entire Instagram account. This has been a big complaint since Threads started in July. Now, the good news is that Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has announced two updates to fix this issue. In a post on Threads, Mosseri shared that they listened to users and made changes based on their feedback.

Steps to Delete Threads Account

Due to the latest update, you now have the option to delete your Threads profile, And that too without affecting your account on Meta's photo-sharing app which is known as Instagram.
  • To do this, simply go to Settings, then Account, and choose "Delete or Deactivate Profile."
  • From there, you can select "delete" to completely remove your Threads account.

Currently, your posts on the platform also appear on Instagram and Facebook feeds. Originally, this was meant to increase engagement from Meta's more established platforms to its newest one. However, after hearing user concerns about privacy, the new update lets you opt out of having your Threads posts featured on platforms outside of Threads. You can find this option in the Privacy section of the Settings menu.

The Issue Before

Since its big launch in July, Threads has faced criticism for not having all the features that are usually found on text-based social media platforms. It didn't have a web version until recently, when it introduced one in August to keep up with X (formerly Twitter). Threads has also been under scrutiny for collecting a lot of user data, similar to other Meta apps. Despite its record-breaking start with over 100 million downloads, the app struggled to keep users in the following weeks. Including losing over half of its initial user base. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged the challenge, emphasizing the company's focus on improving user retention.
