Dell G16's Average CPU Temperature When Gaming is an Insane 96 C

When gaming on the Dell G16, the average CPU temperature is an absurd 96 C. Hot core temperatures are not unexpected on most gaming laptops, especially if they are small and light. However, the Dell G16 is pushing it to little uncomfortable levels when gaming at over 95 C. Starting at $1140 USD for the base configuration with the Core i7-12700H CPU or more for the Core i9-12900H option, Dell's first 16-inch gaming laptop is now available for purchase. Our recent testing of a product provided by the manufacturer revealed above-average CPU and GPU performance. It would be around 10% faster than other laptops with the same Core i7-12700H CPU and GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, respectively. However, there is one important caveat regarding the CPU's temperature when playing games. The CPU would stable at a very high 96 C or perhaps a little bit higher, as demonstrated by our screenshot below, while the GPU would stabilize at an acceptable (albeit still very warm) 86 C. It's not extremely harmful, of course, but the majority of comparable gaming laptops, like the Asus Zephyrus M16 or the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, can maintain CPU temperatures at 80 C or lower when put through similar conditions. A danger zone can be defined as core temperatures above 100 C, especially when they persist for a long time. The Core i7-12700H in the Dell G16 is operating at an uncomfortably near temperature of 96 C, so we can only speculate as to how the more powerful Core i9-12900H configuration may perform.
