The decision by his grandmother Queen Margrethe II to revoke the royal titles of four of her grandchildren "shocked" Denmark's Prince Nikolai. For those unaware, starting on January 1, 2023, the world will address Nikolai and his siblings-Felix (20), Henrik (13), and younger sister Athena (10)as either "His Excellency Count of Monpezat" or "Her Excellency Countess of Monpezat." Furthermore, the eldest son of Prince Joachim (who is sixth in line to the Danish throne), the 23-year-old Denmark's Prince, received this bombshell news "a little over a week ago." He also told the Danish publication Ekstra Bladet, "We are, as my parents have also stated, in shock at this decision and how quickly it has actually gone. I am very confused about why it has to happen like this." Prince Nikolai confessed that although shocked, the news hit "even harder" when the palace officially published it. Denmark's Prince Nikolai Removing her grandchildren's prince and princess titles, according to 82-year-old Queen Margrethe II, will free them from the confines and restrictions of royal life and allow them to "create their own lives." But the decision has left Prince Nikolai, who has a great modeling career and has walked the runway for prominent fashion houses like Dior and Vogue, "shocked and perplexed." Moreover, this week, Joachim stated that it's not "fun" to see your children suffering and confused. The mother of Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix, Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg, also expressed her confusion about the news. Denmark's Prince Nikolai

On another note, the titles of Prince Frederik, the successor to the throne, his wife, Princess Mary, and their kids, Prince Christian (16), Princess Isabella (15), and Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine (11), will remain unchanged. However, Denmark's Queen Margrethe II stands her ground that this will be good for her grandchildren (Prince Joachim's kids) in the future. Lastly, Queen Margrethe's decision echoes the drama that recently played out within the British royal family.
