The actor passed away at his home in Studio City on Friday, and the cause of death is currently unknown. In response, players have been gathering around Reddick’s character in the game to pay their respects, with many sharing videos and screenshots of their virtual memorials online. Some have even been emoting or kneeling in front of Zavala to honor the late actor. Reddick was a prominent figure in Destiny 2, having played Commander Zavala since the game’s release. He was also known for his role as Sylens in the Horizon series, where he provided both the voice and facial capture for the character. He also appeared in Remedy’s Quantum Break. Many Destiny 2 players have expressed their sadness at Reddick’s passing, with some noting that he was the only original voice actor for the three most prominent NPCs at the game’s launch to still be performing as his character up until the most recent expansion. Gina Torres, who originally voiced Ikora Rey, was recast as the character, and Nathan Fillion’s character Cayde-6 was killed off in a previous expansion. source: Tracker Network In the wake of Reddick’s death, both Bungie and Guerrilla Games have issued statements in honor of the actor. Bungie described Reddick as an “iconic presence on screen” and praised his “uncompromising dedication to his craft” and “radiating kindness” towards the gaming community. Guerrilla Games thanked Reddick for “everything you’ve brought to the character of Sylens” and praised his “infinite talent and wisdom”. Reddick’s passing has been met with an outpouring of grief and support from fans and colleagues alike, with many taking to social media to pay tribute to the actor. This virtual memorial within Destiny 2 is a touching tribute to the impact that Reddick had on the gaming community, and serves as a reminder of the emotional connections that people can form with characters and actors within virtual worlds.
