An Indian village has decided to reduce its daily use of TV and the internet by a few hours each.
At 7 o'clock at night, the Maharashtra village sounds a siren to remind residents to turn off their televisions and cellphones. At 8.30 p.m., Vadgaon village in the Sangli district sounds the final siren once more.
When the village council sounds the siren once more at 8.30 p.m., the two "addiction" instruments may be turned on. According to BBC Hindi, Vijay Mohite, head of the village council, the decision was reached on the nation's Independence Day.
Nearly 3,000 people live in the Indian community, the majority of them are farmers and mill workers.
When online courses replaced traditional classroom instruction, according to Mohite, COVID had made kids dependent on screens. Mohite thinks that because kids are back in school, their screen usage should decrease.

He claimed that because young people left after school to play or use their phones, adults and children were not conversing with one another sufficiently. A village woman told BBC Hindi that she had trouble "supervising her children" since they would be using the phone or watching TV.
According to her, the new rule makes it simple for her husband to assist the kids with their homework while she works in the kitchen. The BBC called it a "digital detox," but carrying it out was difficult because many people at first opposed and even made fun of the concept.
Implementation was initially challenging since council workers had to go door-to-door to encourage individuals to follow.
