In Buffalo, four teens died in a car accident that investigators suspect may have something to do with a terrifying new TikTok challenge. The speeding car that the dead victims and one surviving youngster were riding in collided Monday morning, ejecting all five occupants. The stolen Kia was being driven by their 16-year-old companion. Police reported that four of the passengers, who were between the ages of 14 and 17, died. The sole survivor of the accident was hospitalized in intensive care while the driver was treated at a hospital and then released. According to Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia, the youths may have been inspired to steal the automobile by a TikTok challenge that encourages individuals to break into Kia and Hyundai cars with phone chargers. The so-called "Kia challenge" challenges viewers of TikTok to engage in the illicit behavior by demonstrating how to hotwire the two models of cars using a USB cord and a screwdriver. Since the initial video was posted during the summer, police agencies all around the nation have noted an upsurge in auto thefts involving Kia and Hyundai models. The lack of engine immobilizers, a type of anti-theft technology, in Kia and Hyundai vehicles produced between 2011 and 2021, according to a class-action lawsuit filed last month in Orange County, California, makes them easier targets for theft. The Kia that was involved in the fatal collision on Monday morning was reported stolen the previous evening.
