What is VGA? Video Graphics Array that is widely used today

VGA technology stands for Video Graphics Array. It is a type of cable connection that is used to connect a projector screen, TV, or monitor to an output device. Nowadays VGA got a very high competition with updated cable connection versions like HDMI and DVI.

What is VGA connection?

We are assuming that some of you have a bit of knowledge about VGA. If not, then follow this article. You will learn about VGA in detail.
  •   It is a pin connection.
15-pin connectors are used with VGA cables, with 5 pins at the top, 5 in the middle, and the final 5 at the very bottom. Naturally, a desktop or laptop's VGA port has the same quantity of pinholes as a VGA cable so that the two can be connected together. Every pin serves a purpose. The first pin transfers the color red, while the second and third pins, respectively, transfer the colors green and blue.
  •   Pin and hole are for establishing the connection.
VGA cable connection has two variants. First, when it is called a male connection that means it has pins in the tip. To connect those pin connections, there must be some receiver which is called a female connection, that has the same number of holes in its tip, which should exactly match the existing pin number. Then only the connection looks perfect.

The latest HDMI and DVI ports

You're going to need a VGA converter if all you have is a VGA monitor or video card because VGA, DVI, and HDMI video cards and monitors are all mixed together in the real world. For instance, if you recently purchased a new monitor with only DVI and/or HDMI ports and your computer's video card only supports VGA, you'll either need to upgrade your video card to one with more ports, find another monitor that supports VGA or purchase a converter. The same is true if your video card only works with HDMI and/or DVI, but all you have is a VGA-compatible monitor. Understanding what kind of converter, you require can be difficult. Do you require a DVI to HDMI converter, a DVI to VGA converter, a VGA to DVI converter, or a DVI to VGA converter? VGA and HDMI can connect

To transfer the VGA signal from your computer to the HDMI port on a monitor or TV, you need a VGA-to-HDMI converter. If you want to use an HDMI TV or monitor as the display but your computer only has a VGA port on the video card, get this. Since VGA doesn't transfer audio, some VGA to HDMI converters even comes with an embedded USB cable that does, allowing you to play sounds through a display with embedded speakers, like an HDMI TV. The exact opposite is also true: an HDMI to VGA converter connects a video card with HDMI output to a monitor or TV with a VGA input connection. This kind of converter is useful when connecting a new desktop or laptop to an older display because HDMI is more recent than VGA. VGA and DVI can be connected too.

If you want to connect a video card with DVI to a display with a VGA port, you'll need a DVI-to-VGA converter. Typically, DVI to VGA converters is DVI male to VGA female converters. This means that the DVI end of the converter plugs directly into the DVI port on your video card, while the VGA end of the converter is used in conjunction with a male-to-male VGA cable to connect the converter to the female end of the display device. Although they can be rather expensive and difficult to find, VGA to DVI converters is also available. If you want to transfer video from a VGA video card to a DVI monitor, you will need this kind of converter. Because DVI carries both analog and digital signals, DVI to VGA converters functions by converting the signal from digital to analog, which only requires a small amount of space on the DVI pins. When switching from VGA to DVI, a converter is needed to convert the analog signals from VGA to digital ones because only analog is carried by VGA.

Some further info.

When looking around for a VGA converter, keep in mind that some of them call for a VGA cable as well as the converter. If your new configuration isn't supported by your old drivers, you might need to update your drivers in Windows. Users of Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows 8 can do this through Startup Settings by selecting the Enable low-resolution video option. This option can be found in the Advanced Boot Options Menu in earlier versions of Windows. In Windows XP, it is marked as Enable VGA Mode.
