Doctors & Nurses Can Apply to Be Recognized as Trustworthy on YT

According to a statement from YouTube on Thursday, licensed healthcare practitioners can now seek to have panels identifying them as trustworthy providers of health information added to their videos.  Additionally, they will be able to request that movies be put on the health content shelves, which gather data on particular medical issues. The function is available to licensed medical professionals such as doctors, nurses, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and social workers. YouTube will check the licenses of applicants.  The Council of Medical Specialty Societies, the National Academy of Medicine, and the World Health Organization established the best principles for health information exchange, which state that information should be based on science, impartial, transparent, and egalitarian.  Doctors & Nurses Can Apply to Be Recognized as Trustworthy on YT In order to ensure they still fit the requirements, YouTube said those selected into the program will be "periodically reviewed." Prior to this, these functions could only be accessed by institutions like hospitals and public health authorities.  In a blog post announcing the change, YouTube's global head of healthcare and public health partnerships, Garth Graham, stated that "this new step will allow us to grow to incorporate high-quality information from a wider set of healthcare channels." According to Graham, who spoke to The Verge earlier this month, YouTube is aiming to increase the availability of trustworthy health information on the site. "I believe that the best way to combat medical disinformation is to either eliminate or drastically reduce what is observed. However, individuals continue to ask questions and seek clarification, he claimed.  Doctors & Nurses Can Apply to Be Recognized as Trustworthy on YT Therefore, you must ensure that there is a sufficient amount of knowledge to enable people to engage in responsible behavior. YouTube has struggled to control false information, especially false material on medicine. For instance, YouTube was a major source of false information about covid and the covid vaccine.  One option to enhance the variety of healthcare content on YouTube is to elevate what is deemed to be useful information, but it is unclear if this will be sufficient to offset the negative.
