Seattle Lumen Field-Kurt Schlosser/GeekWire Photo On Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks game and Atlanta Falcons football game was stopped and delayed after a drone was reportedly seen over or close to Lumen Field.
The play was halted by a drone over a Seattle
stadium for the second time this weekend. A misbehaving drone disrupted Saturday night's game between Stanford and the University of Washington at Husky Stadium.
Approximately 6:30 remained in the fourth quarter on Sunday when the game was stopped. Players from both sides were instructed to leave the field when referee Tra Blake halted the game due to "NFL security." The lag time was roughly eight minutes. The drone was never seen on television, but it was clear that the players and coaches were staring up into the sky after the game resumed.
Unlike the Seahawks, the drone has done a great job of slowing down this Falcons offense. During the more than 10-minute delay, Fox analyst Petro Papadakis stated, "I kind of feel like I'm gazing at a UFO, even though I'm not."
The drone on Saturday that "lost connectivity and went rogue" was the work of the Washington Athletic Department, according to Fox Sports field reporter Jennifer Hale during the Seahawks coverage.
According to Federal Aviation Administration regulations, drones cannot be flown in or near stadiums with a seating capacity of 30,000 people or more. Drone use is restricted at NFL, MLB, NCAAF, or NASCAR events, starting one hour before and ending one hour after the event's planned start time.
Earlier this month, the NFL's chief of security explained to Bloomberg why the league is concerned about the gadgets. However, Chief Security Officer Cathy Lanier stated, "Quite honestly, I'm worried about the evil actor. "Catastrophic outcomes" could be brought on by a malicious operator, she continued.
Civil fines of up to $37,377 and probable criminal charges are possible outcomes of violations. The aerial film can appear when the drone operators have permission, and the equipment is in good working order.
