On Sunday, December 11, a mother-of-body five's was discovered, nearly two weeks after she inexplicably vanished while out for a late-night bushwalk with her partner. After becoming separated from her companion around 1.30 am while out on a walk at Federal Falls in Mount Canobolas, close to Orange, in the central west of NSW, Esther Wallace, 47, was reported missing on November 30. Around 4 o'clock in the afternoon, the police located her body 1.24 miles from the national park where she was last seen. On December 1, her boyfriend reported her missing at eight in the morning. He claimed that they went on a walk in the early hours to see the sunrise, which would have been approximately 5:40 a.m. Despite the near-freezing temperatures at the time, it was said that Wallace was wearing an orange jacket, black slacks, and sandals. Officers from the Central West Police District reportedly co-ordinated a multi-agency search to locate her. "Following an extensive land and air search of the surrounding areas, a body was located just before 4pm … approximately 2km(~1.24 miles) from where the woman was last seen," police said. The Officers Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, PolAir, the Dog Unit, Chifley Rural Crime Investigators, police from adjacent Districts, and Western Region officials were all involved in the extensive investigation that was initiated. It is unknown who Wallace's boyfriend is, according to officials. Search teams unearthed various pieces of clothes, including an orange jacket and a white crochet coat, before her body was found. On Monday, December 12, Daily Mail Australia was informed by police sources that the cause of Wallace's death was likely an accident. The theory of misadventure has persisted throughout the investigation, according to sources. However, the mother's untimely passing has baffled her relatives. According to Wallace's mother Lyn, the circumstances "don't make sense," and she is baffled as to why the couple chose to go for a walk at 1.30 am while it was still dark. Lyn stated, "Esther loved camping, but she wasn't a walker. Prior to going missing, Wallace was residing with her mother in Tottenham, which is around three hours to the northwest of where she was last seen. Tyrone Stewart, Wallace's adult son, also discussed the unusual events and claimed that his mother was not the sort to go for a walk to observe the sunrise. He reportedly told the Central Western Daily, "My mum doesn't go to see the sunrise, she doesn't go bushwalking, especially in sandals," according to The Guardian.
