Ex-prostitute Divine Brown's stoops to a fresh low 27 years after sex act on Hugh Grant

Divine Brown strolls down her street in the rough Atlanta neighborhood where she now resides while holding a phone in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Her shirt is open to display the snake tattoo on her chest. She has traveled quite a distance from Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, where she was discovered performing a sex act on actor Hugh Grant in 1995. The then-prostitute claimed a $50 (£45) "trick" had earned her a billionaire and propelled her to stardom. The Mirror has learned that Divine, 53, may spend 30 years in prison if found guilty of her most recent legal mishap. A close neighbor on the crime-ridden south Atlanta estate where she lives told us: “Divine is all about appearances. Never did the saying ‘red shoes and no knickers’ sum, anyone, up better. “She likes to have people believe she drives a Porsche, wears Prada clothes and Gucci shoes. The reality is far from that. “She has no car, and the shoes she steps out in are nasty old flip-flops. “Divine has been in and out of trouble all her adult life. There is constant shouting coming from her home, mostly when she is drunk. It seems her choices may finally be catching up to her.” Police called to Divine’s ground-floor, two-bedroom apartment at 12.30am on Valentine’s Day found Divine, who was arrested under her real name of Estella Thompson, appearing drunk with “very slurred speech”. Officers then found her 13-year-old alleged victim, who said she had been hit. The teenager told officers Divine was under the influence of “alcohol or something because she has seen her pop pills before”. The police report said Divine had been “grabbing her by her arm, throwing her around the apartment, slamming her on the couch”. Attending Officer Chance Gilbert wrote: “Once she was able to break away, she attempted to run out of the door, and (Divine) grabbed her by the face and scratched her on the left side of her face.” Divine was transported to the Fulton County Jail, where authorities found suspected cocaine secreted inside her body. The girl was then taken to the hospital. The case is still pending, and a narcotics possession conviction carries a maximum 30-year prison sentence. In Georgia, the maximum sentence for first-degree child maltreatment is 20 years in jail. Despite assertions that her relationship with Hugh Grant, who was 34 at the time, had provided her with enormous money and the "most fantastic life," public records reveal she has lived at least 36 different addresses and was frequently evicted. She has more than 18 court rulings against her and has been charged with numerous other offenses, such as perjury and service theft. Divine has drawn comparisons to the prostitute Julia Roberts portrayed in the movie Pretty Woman, but since she and the chauvinistic British actor, now 62, were detained on June 27, 1995, for engaging in sex in a public location, there hasn't been a happy ending. LA police officers were drawn to Grant’s white BMW because the brake lights kept flashing “on and off” as the driver, they said, kept pushing his foot down on the pedal.
