The conflict in Ukraine has cost a lot of lives since February. Additionally, it has brought about long-term and unprecedented issues for the ecosystem. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has caused significant destruction and fatalities on both fronts. While experts agree that Ukraine has essentially become a target for Russian missiles, they also contend that Russia's war on the nation's ecology needs to be addressed. Although it is unknown when the fighting will finish, analysts think that the senseless assaults have a significant negative impact on the Ukrainian atmosphere. Concern over how Ukraine's unrest may affect the environment is growing among scientists. According to a World Wildlife Fund news release from June, large military vehicles and explosives are destroying habitats both inside and outside of protected zones. Furthermore, satellite data indicates that over 100,000 hectares of natural ecosystems have already been damaged by fires brought on by attacks. There have already been 78 more fires than there were at this time last year, according to the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine. Additionally, at least 900 protected sites totaling 1.2 million hectares, or 30% of all protected areas in Ukraine, have been severely harmed by shelling, bombing, oil pollution, and military maneuvers, according to Ukraine Environment officials. The total extinction of some Emerald Network areas is a real possibility.
