On Monday, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, attacked Apple's iMessage, criticising the lack of compatibility across iPhones and Android smartphones. He shared a picture of a billboard advertisement from Facebook that makes fun of iMessage restrictions that cause iPhone texts to appear in blue bubbles while Android messages appear in green ones. With end-to-end encryption that works on iPhones and Android devices and includes group chats, WhatsApp is far more private and secure than iMessage, according to Zuckerberg, who posted the statement on Instagram on Monday. Some users have long complained about the bad cross-device messaging experience, the poor quality compressed videos, the absence of read receipts, the issues with group texts, and the improper sending of emojis. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Slams Apple's iMessage Earlier this year, Google attacked Apple on this subject and dedicated a rare position under its search bar online. According to Google, Apple converts text messages received between iPhones and Android devices into SMS and MMS, two antiquated protocols for exchanging text-only messages between devices. Apple should instead utilise the RCS system, according to Google. Because the technical challenges encourage customers to buy more iPhones, Apple CEO Tim Cook has avoided making iMessage more compatible with Android phones. Another reason existed for Zuckerberg to be critical of iMessage. Facebook, whose corporate name was changed to Meta last year, recently launched a significant marketing campaign for WhatsApp, emphasising the platform's security and privacy features. Zuckerberg said that the software enables users to arrange chats to "disappear with the push of a button" and that "end-to-end encrypted backups" have been offered since last year with the image of WhatsApp's billboard campaign in New York. He wrote, "All of which iMessage still lacks." Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Slams Apple's iMessage WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook in 2014 for $22 billion, and as other areas of the firm's growth are slow, the company is now looking to the platform as a possible source of income growth. Its business, which is almost exclusively comprised of digital advertising, has suffered a $10 billion loss as a result of privacy measures made by Apple last year. Apple asked its more than 1.6 billion device owners to choose not to be monitored by apps in an upgrade to its iOS. These kinds of tracking are how corporations like Facebook developed trustworthy user targeting for advertising and grew to become one of the biggest companies in the world.
