Adam McKay delivered a savage satirical blow to Chevron by writing a phony advertisement posted online, denouncing the oil company for prioritizing money over the earth's future. Additionally, the writer, producer, and director released the fake Chevron ad on Twitter on Thursday, and it has since received more than 4.2 million views. Furthermore, Adam McKay did not give any hint that it was satire, asking in a tweet, "Has anyone seen this Chevron commercial?" Fake Chevron Ad by Adam McKay Criticizes Its Role in Climate Change

About the fake Chevron ad by McKay

The fake Chevron ad claims that the greenhouse gases released by the company's products "are transforming the planet right this second into a hellish George Miller film," alluding to the Australian director's postapocalyptic "Mad Max" films. It also uses generic stock footage typical of Madison Avenue brand campaigns and a motivational orchestral soundtrack. Moreover, the narrator of the 100-second clip declares, "At the end of the day, we at Chevron straight up don't give a single fuck about you, your weird children, or your stupid ratty-ass dog." In addition, the fake Chevron ad displays the Chevron logo and the phrase: "We don't give a fuck about you" on the end card, emphasizing the point. Furthermore, the narrator claims that the ad is intended to make you forget that Chevron is actively murdering you every day by lulling you into a catatonic condition. And while McKay's advertisement specifically targets Chevron, the narrator notes at the end that "this commercial applies equally" to Exxon, BP, Shell, and "any hack politician who's trading the future of life on this planet for filthy money in oil stocks." What's more

Actor Mark Ruffalo, who is also vocal against climate change, tweeted a quote from the fake ad, created by McKay's Hyper object Industries. "Guys. Chevron has finally convinced me… you won't believe how moving this commercial is," Ruffalo wrote. On another note, the Climate Emergency Fund announced that McKay committed $4 million to the nonprofit organization last week, his greatest personal donation to a cause (and the largest personal donation in Climate Emergency Fund history). He also became a board member of the fund. In addition, producer, philanthropist, and activist Abigail Disney will announce a $200,000 donation to the Climate Emergency Fund to support McKay's pledge.
