Microsoft is expanding its Microsoft 365 service with a new low-cost subscription tier. More features for Outlook inboxes are available for $1.99 per month. It comes with 100GB of OneDrive cloud storage and removes advertisements from Outlook mobile and web clients.
The main disadvantage of the Basic plan in comparison to the other Microsoft 365 subscription tiers is that you don't get full desktop versions of the apps previously like ms Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook. The more feature-limited online versions will still be available, but they are also available to anyone with a free Microsoft account. To get those apps, you'll need to upgrade to the Microsoft 365 Personal ($6.99 per month, $69.99 per year) or Microsoft 365 Family ($9.99 per month, $99.99 per year) tiers, which also include more OneDrive storage and other benefits.
Microsoft's new Microsoft 365 Basic plan provides up to 300 people with 1 TB of storage space, business email, call, chat, and meeting functionality. Customers also receive an ad-free Outlook experience and availability to Microsoft forums with support experts. It is too early to tell whether these experts will outperform Microsoft's experts. Microsoft 365 Basic will be available on January 30. Subscribers to the current $1.99/month 100GB OneDrive tier will be automatically upgraded.
