For $700, Hollywood Destination E-Bike Rack easily carries 140lbs

One advantage of e-bikes is that they require less frequent use of bike racks. Because they propel you much faster and farther than an acoustic bike, you are more inclined to ride to the bike path rather than transporting the bike in your car. That being said, there are times when putting an e-bike on a car rack is necessary, and the additional weight and different geometries of an e-bike make mounting them with traditional bike racks impossible or dangerous. That's where a new breed of bike racks, which blur the distinction between bike carriers and motorcycle carriers, come in. Today we'll take a look at the Hollywood Destination E-Bike Rack, which costs a reasonable $699.99. [caption id="attachment_59273" align="aligncenter" width="1400"]For $700, the Hollywood Destination E-Bike Rack easily carries 140lbs. Image: Electrek[/caption] To begin, the Hollywood Destination E-Bike Rack comes almost assembled in the box, requiring only a few minutes to fasten some screws and attach some belts. It is compatible with the 2-inch trailer hitch that I installed on my Tesla Model Y. While it does not provide pass-through lighting (and is not legally required to do so), it does provide a slew of safety features that will retain you from pinching off a finger. The main thing I notice here is the high-quality, heavy-duty parts, but it's also nice to see the very eco-friendly packaging, which uses only a few plastic zip-ties and baggies. Just with a few bits to assemble, it becomes less intimidating, and my teenage son and I had fun putting it together. You'll notice the extra weight when compared to a standard bike rack, even a 4 acoustic bike rack. It's not easy to fit into the trailer hitch at 46 pounds, but the patented "no wobble hitch system" is probably my favorite feature of this hitch and the biggest improvement over my previous bike rack. That's a fancy term for a bolt tightener, and it made a big difference when compared to my old bike rack, which wobbled when we drove. The Hollywood Destination e-bike Rack includes two pole clamps to keep everything in place. The kit also comes with a compact ramp for loading and unloading heavy e-bikes from the rack. It was extremely difficult to maneuver them around such 20-inch, 4-inch wide fat tire e-bikes. The Hollywood Destination Rack is an e-bike rack that wraps into the trunk of a car and secures with a keyed-alike locking frame and seat post clamps. When not in use, the rack folds flat for quick access to the car's cargo area. The rack is also suitable for acoustic bikes, including XL 29-inches such as the Trek Session 8 downhill bike we use in Vermont.

Electrek’s Take

I know there are some sleeker bike racks out there from Thule and Yakima which cost up to $1000. But the Hollywood Destination 2 E-Bike Rack really inspires confidence at $699 and features a very sturdy, foldable system and smooth travel with “no wobble”. If that’s too rich for your blood, they offer $599 and $499 models as well.
