Ford’s all-electric Explorer available for order in Europe, but not for America

Image Source: Ford Ford is rushing to electrify its lineup before strict emissions regulations and bans on combustion engines force it to pull its stop and make selling gas-powered cars nearly impossible. It has already converted the Mustang and the F-150 pickup truck into electric cars, and now it is planning to launch a battery-powered Explorer. Developed by Ford and German automaker Volkswagen, the two companies had announced a partnership to build EVs together back in 2019, hence the new Explorer. This new Explorer is built on Volkswagen’s MEB electric vehicle platform; the same platform used in the ID.4 electric crossover. However, it is not really noticeable from the outside. [caption id="attachment_125103" align="aligncenter" width="1200"] Image Source: Ford Media Center[/caption] The new Explorer sports a futuristic, boxy look to it, unlike the ID.4’s distinctly VW lines. Although its roofline and C pillar are familiar from the 2023 Explorer, it has been updated to fit the EV’s much smaller dimensions, which is almost 21 inches shorter in comparison to the current Explorer. Although it might be smaller in size, the new Explorer can accommodate five seats across two rows and storage space spread across the car of about 25 gallons or 470 liters. Inside, you can expect an “ultra-modern” interior that equips sports seats and a soundbar audio system. There is also a touchscreen that takes up the center console and a massive storage bin that can fit a 15-inch laptop. The Explorer also features keyless entry, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free tailgate, and dual-zone climate control. When it comes to the range of the new EV, the word isn’t out yet, but it has been confirmed that the Explorer will be able to fast-charge from ten percent battery to 80 percent in only 25 minutes on one of Europe’s many DC charging points. The new Ford Explorer EV will be available to pre-order in Europe later this year. The Explorer will also be available with Assisted Lane-Change technology, which Ford claims is a first for its cars in Europe.
