Four California family members kidnapped together earlier this week were found dead in a rural section of the state on Wednesday, authorities said. Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke stated “our worst fears have been confirmed” after the four dead, including an 8-month-old baby girl, were discovered by a farm worker in the northern California county. No charges have been filed, while Warnke said officials will seek to develop a case against him. During a news conference earlier Wednesday, the sheriff’s office displayed video surveillance depicting a man with a medical-style mask carrying the two men away with zipties behind their backs before returning back to retrieve the mother and infant. A motivation to the kidnapping and death is not known, Warnke also added. The Department of Justice will be involved with the terrible crime scene. “I’m just enraged inside because this was entirely, totally senseless,” he added. “We have an entire family wiped away and for what? We don’t know yet.” Salgado, 48, was arrested into prison after an ATM card in Atwater belonging to the affected family was used at a nearby bank, investigators said. He attempted to kill himself before investigators arrested him, officials claimed. Warnke said Wednesday night the department has spoken to the suspect, but did not disclose any details.
