Fox Body Gauge Mode Available In 2024 Ford Mustang: Report

All 2024 Ford Mustangs feature a fox body gauge cluster; as expected, it's highly customizable. Ford is offering a retro-themed, Fox body-styled gauge skin for the instrument screen of the brand-spanking-new seventh-generation Mustang launched on Wednesday. However, the setting or "themes" is connected to various drive modes to highlight different bits of information. But when examined further into the menus, one theme that will delight many Mustang fans is the ecstatic Fox Body. However, Ford offers various retro gauge settings for the new Mustang, though we think the simple Fox body layout might capture the most attention.

The design for the dash and instrument cluster evolved throughout the third-generation run. Still, the structure was always the same: two large dials on a black background with the speedometer on the right and the tachometer on the left. In addition, four smaller gauges surrounded them, though the digital version simplifies that to just fuel and engine temperature. Previously, the Fox body ran from 1979 through 1993 and became an icon in its own right. Afterward years of emissions-choked power outputs, it was a return to form for the nameplate. Ford introduced the high-tech 2.3-liter turbo-powered Mustang SVO in 1984, developed by the team that eventually evolved into today's Ford Performance. The 5.0-liter V-8 finally topknotted 200 hp for the first time in years. In addition, the Fox also lent itself to the first SVT Cobra and Cobra R near the end of its run.

In recent years, Fox has proved to be a powerful platform for all sorts of modifications and a backbone in pop culture. Craig Sandvig, interaction design manager for Ford, said, "So why not pay tribute? "I grew up with Fox bodies," he added, "I didn't own one; I wanted to own one; it was aspirational. I had many friends; I had a girlfriend that had one; it was cool." Sandvig stated to Road & Track, an American automotive enthusiast magazine, that the idea for a Fox body theme came about early in the configuration process. "Taking advantage of a digital screen, it's fully reconfigurable. So what can we do? We experimented with it for a little bit and had some fun." Ford selected to revamp the face-lifted Fox body's white needles built from 1987-1993. Fortunately, it didn't play the 85-mph speedometer equipped to many Fox Mustangs over the years.

Also, when you turn on the headlights, the gauges are "backlit" in green. Sandvig said there wasn't sufficient time to create a gauge cluster paying tribute to every prior Mustang generation, so the Fox chose to prioritize the popularity of Eighties and Nineties cars. Meanwhile, we predict many new Mustang owners will choose this gauge cluster theme, especially if they buy a white 5.0-liter convertible.
