Future Wearable Technology Being Developed by Researchers: Electronic Second Skins

What if you could create an electronic second skin that you could wear in the future? Since Silicon Valley startup PyrAmes is developing a soft band that may be worn over a foot or wrist to record blood pressure in intensive care units for preterm babies, this prospect might not be as far-fetched as it first appears. The wearable technology is designed to continually monitor blood flow in a manner similar to that of an arterial line without the use of needles. Additionally, a tablet will be wirelessly linked to the band in order to track changes in blood pressure in real time. But the electronics used must be flexible and elastic in order to make this science fiction-like concept a reality. So, Bao's researchers developed organic polymers using a molecular method. According to reports, a polymer is a large molecule made up of several monomers that are linked together by repeating like a long string of paper clips. By changing the monomer's structure, researchers may stretch the material and shape it to fit, even inside the human body.
