Google announces Bard A.I. to take on ChatGPT

On Monday, Google unveiled Bard, an artificial intelligence chatbot platform that will be made available over the next several weeks. The declaration supports earlier CNBC reporting. Bard will face off against rival ChatGPT, an OpenAI-developed AI service. LaMDA, or Language Model for Dialogue Applications, is the company's robust language model and powers Bard. Prior to making the chat technology more broadly accessible to the general public, Google will make it available to "trusted testers," the company announced in a blog post on Monday. As part of a "code red" strategy to counter ChatGPT, the well-liked chatbot supported in part by Microsoft, CNBC reported last week that Google is testing some of these capabilities with staff members. A "Apprentice Bard" chatbot and new search desktop designs that could be utilized in a question-and-answer style were among the features. “Soon, you’ll see AI-powered features in Search that distill complex information and multiple perspectives into easy-to-digest formats, so you can quickly understand the big picture and learn more from the web: whether that’s seeking out additional perspectives, like blogs from people who play both piano and guitar, or going deeper on a related topic, like steps to get started as a beginner,” wrote CEO Sundar Pichai. The business presented the example of discussing new discoveries from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old utilizing Bard to clarify hard themes. The product trials follow a recent all-hands meeting where staff members expressed concerns about the business's AI competitive edge in light of ChatGPT's recent surge in popularity. According to CNBC, Jeff Dean, Google's head of artificial intelligence, warned staff members at the time that the business is proceeding "more cautiously than a small startup" since there is a greater "reputational risk" associated with supplying inaccurate information. He and Pichai hinted at the time that Google would release such items to the general public this year. Web search is Google's main industry, and the corporation has long hailed itself as an AI pioneer. More employees are now being surveyed by managers about the initiatives in recent weeks. The company emphasized Monday that it will need rigorous testing, saying “we’ll combine external feedback with our own internal testing to make sure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety and security in real-world information.”
