Google Launches a New Cloud Tool

Google Cloud recently release a new tool, giving users the ability to directly develop and manage certain resources and services while also gaining a performance advantage. Additionally, the "gcloud storage CLI" tool, according to the cloud giant, allows for up to 94% faster data transfers when using its cloud storage. Besides, users could previously modify their Google Cloud resources using scripts or the command line via the Google Cloud CLI. But the new tool allegedly modernizes the experience.

How does it function?

Google asserts that faster transfer rates resulted due to two major breakthroughs within gcloud storage. First off, it appears that gcloud storage employs faster hashing algorithms for CRC32C data integrity verification that avoids the complex setup needed for gsutil, the tool's Python-based predecessor. Google Cloud Tool Secondly, the new Cloud tool makes use of a novel parallelization technique that views task management as a graph problem, which Google claims will enable "more work to be done in parallel with far less overhead." Moreover, Google claims that by employing a parallel composite upload strategy, gcloud storage is 33% faster on upload than gsutil when transferring 100 files totaling 100MB in size. Additionally, Google touts the new tool as a "consistent way" to manage all Google Cloud resources, such as Cloud Storage buckets, Compute Engine VMs, and Google Kubernetes Engine clusters, in addition to the performance enhancements. For instance, by combining commands under common headers, gcloud storage reportedly considerably minimizes the number of top-level commands that users must employ to control their Cloud Storage resources.
