Google announced documents of Meet call transcriptions to be available to more Workspace customers at Google Cloud Next 2022.
Auto transcription feature was rolled out to academicians and educators in June this year which helps the students to refer later on without needing to write down during the lecture. Teachers can modify the transcripts for the students who were unable to attend the session and the participants will have to ask for the transcription from the hosts if above 200 participants.
The transcriptions will be available by default which can be put off by the organization which is also tied to the host settings which can be managed by the host so it can be turned off for invitees.
However, considering the usefulness of the feature, one can only wonder why it was not rolled out earlier full-fledged. It is not limited to education users but will not be accessible to low-tier Workspace, business, or enterprise users and private Google account holders too.
The company states that the feature will be rolling out from October 24th and will take 15 days to show up completely in scheduled sessions on Meet.
