In 2021, Google first gave the Play Store a Material You design overhaul, but not all sections of the main Android app store got the makeover. The Play Store, however, has notably been missing from the redesigned account switcher interface that has lately been seen in various other Google apps and websites. Fortunately, that seems to be altering.
This week, a new Material You account switcher interface was observed by certain users on the Play Store (via 9to5Google). This may be accessed by tapping your avatar or initial in the top-right corner of the program’s main menu; here, you can also discover notifications, offers, and any pending app updates.
The options on the newly redesigned menu are exactly the same as those on the previous one in terms of functionality. The popup’s body now has rounded corners, and the major menu items are located in a second concentric region with a somewhat darker background color.
This revelation follows the announcement that the Play Store would soon have a dynamically themed Material You background, i.e., when your phone adjusts the tint on the dark grey or white backgrounds in apps and menus by using colors from your wallpaper. According to the screenshots, it looks that customers who have the new account switcher for the Play Store also have the dynamic background theming, suggesting that the two updates may have been combined into one server-side update.
Even if you upgrade the Play Store app from APKMirror to the most recent version, you’ll still see the old UI until Google decides it wants to send you some Material You love. This change looks to be an account-based change on a staggered release. Try some of the top applications upgraded for Material You in 2023 to pass the time if you’re sick of waiting.
